The first expansion of the Basic Set and the memorable first expansion of Duel Masters, released on May 30, 2002, with 5 cards per pack, priced at 150 yen (excluding tax). There are 120 varieties in total.

Since it was the first pack, it contained only creatures and spells, and many of the basic cards were vanilla. However, the system that formed the basis of the game, such as blockers for light, water, and dark civilizations, and S-triggers that created reversal elements, had already been completed to some extent at this point.

Compared to today, there were less complicated abilities, so even so-called vanilla and quasi-vanilla cards were set at higher rarity if their power was high.
Therefore, the cards that were used for a long time were more often normal lightweight cards than foils.

Cards in DM-01 and DM-02 have larger text characters than later ones, and the abilities are not organized with "." so they are easily recognizable.

Along with DM-05, this is a rare expansion that does not contain a single evolutionary creature.
The S-trigger spells in this expansion are simple in effect and easy to handle, and all cards have a history of being re-recorded.

Perhaps as a fan service to the old-timers, many cards related in some way to the cards in this expansion appeared later, and some of them even formed a name category.

基本セット最初のエキスパンションにして記念すべきデュエル・マスターズ1番目のエキスパンション。2002年5月30日発売。1パック5枚入りで価格は150円（税抜）。全120種類。

最初のパックであるためクリーチャーと呪文しか収録されておらず、しかもバニラなどの淡泊な基本カードが多いが、既に光文明・水文明・闇文明のブロッカーや逆転要素を生むS・トリガーなどの、ゲームの根幹を成すシステムはこの時点である程度完成されていた。

現在と比べると複雑な能力が少なかったため、いわゆるバニラや準バニラでもパワーが高ければレアリティが高めに設定されていた。
そのため、長らく使われたカードはフォイルよりもノーマルの軽量カードに多い。

DM-01とDM-02のカードはそれ以降のものよりもテキストの文字が大きく、能力が「・」で整理されていないので一目瞭然である。

DM-05と並び、進化クリーチャーが1枚も収録されていない珍しいエキスパンションである。
このエキスパンションに収録されたS・トリガー呪文は効果がシンプルで扱いやすく、すべてのカードに再録歴がある。

古参へのファンサービスもあってか、この弾のカードと何らかの意味で関連性のあるカードものちに多く登場することになり、一部は名称カテゴリを形成するにまで至っている。
